September 1998

1. To remove black fungus stains from concrete walls, just spray with a mixture of bleach & water.

2. To clean dried food splatters in a microwave, boil 1 cup water for 2 minutes, then wipe the food off.


August 1998

1. To eliminate scratched tabletops, glue small pieces of felt or cork to the bottoms of pots, vases or any item that are prone to scratching. (Family Circle, 3/10/98)

2. To restore the pile on carpet crushed by heavy furniture do one of the following: 1) Place a damp towel over the indentation, and press it with a hot iron; 2) Hold a steam iron about an inch above the area and "Comb" a dull edged tool back and forth over the indentation; or 3) Set an ice cube in the indentation -- as the ice melts, the moisture will. lift the pile. 3. To aid the removal of dirt or grease from your hands, use vegetable oil prior to washing with soap. (Family Circle, 3/10/98)

4. To prevent rust on an outdoor lightbulb, coat the threads of the bult with vaseline. (Family Circle, 3/10/98)

5. To clean ink spots on walls, blow with a clean cloth and a dab of dry-cleaning fluid. If he mark is still there, use a cotton swab to apply 1 teaspoon liquid bleach diluted in 1 cup water. (Woman's Day, 3/10/98)

6. To eliminate wastebasket odors, put cat litter or a fabric-softener sheet at the bottom of the pail. (Woman's Day, 3/10/98)

7. To freshen the scent in the refrigerator, clean the inside first with a mixture of salt and soda water, rinse, then place a couple of cotton balls soaked with vanilla extract in a dish on one of the shelves. (Woman's Day, 3/10/98)


July 1998

1. To get the sticky residue of labels off, use nail polish remover for most surfaces, or for plastic containers, use cooking oil or rubbing alcohol.

2. To clean a garbage disposal throw in ice cubes (to keep the blades sharp), and citrus peels (especially lemon or orange for a fragrant smell).

3. To eliminate a toilet's waterline pour in 2 cups of white vinegar and allow to soak overnight. Flush the toilet in the morning.

4. To degrease soup or hot liquids, place ice cubes in a ziploc bag and dab into the soup/liquid. The fat/grease will cling to the bag and come out.

5. To get even sized meatballs, use an ice cream scooper.

6. To eliminate "Crying" over chopping onions, chill the onions for 1/2 an hour before chopping.

7. To get rid of feltip markers on hands, rub with hairspray.

8. Use old envelopes to write shopping lists on, placing any coupons in the envelopes.

9. To clean hairspray residue, use a mixture of 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol with 1 quart of water.
