ALOHA...MAHALO FOR VISITING THIS SITE...

When we first considered the idea of a community website for Mililani, our friends told us it couldn't be done, several questioned our motives, and still others said that it was too much work. After each aborted start, we too had doubts of whether we could get this site up -- there were many times when we wanted to quit. To keep going, we always reminded ourselves of our original goal: to contribute, even if only in a small way, to making Mililani a better and more convenient place to live, work, play, and do business.

Two of us work in computer-related fields so we gravitated to the idea of a community website rather quickly. The third member of our team has small-business experience and has lived in Mililani since 1972, and he brought a stable influence to our efforts.

The site today is still a labor of love. Everything we do to maintain and expand it is done in the evenings and weekends. Many in the community have also volunteered their time and wisdom, and their help has and continues to be invaluable.

WHERE WILL ALL THIS LEAD TO?

We envision an electronic village in Mililani that helps to spur face-to-face communication -- spreading Aloha -- among people who otherwise would hardly talk to each other. We see this communication as allowing as many people as possible to share & participate in the affairs of Mililani, & providing common ground for everyone to see themselves as part of the whole community.

We also envision the conveniences of an electronic village - such as for families when communicating with their children's schools, the customer who is contemplating a purchase, the movie buff who wants to access the latest movie reviews, and for the business owner who must find new ways to service and communicate with customers and clients.

Mililani is a diverse community - we all come from different backgrounds, have different occupations, and have different personal interests. But even with these differences, there is a need to find common ground & work to bind Mililani in a unifying whole, if not for ourselves, at least for our children. It is our hope that this website will contribute to achieving that goal, and perhaps encourage people in other communities to do likewise.

OUR PERSONAL THOUGHTS ABOUT THE ALOHA SPIRIT

Each of us grew-up in the same small town on Kaua`i where we experienced first hand what it was like to live where people celebrated their diversity but still found common ground to unite. Over time we learned that this sense of unity & community wasn't created out of what a government official or other prominent person in the community did. Instead, it was created by the every-day actions of neighbors caring, sharing & communicating with each other. And so like the residents of that small town on Kaua`i, we believe that each of us doing the smallest things every single day, collectively can make a big difference in making life in Mililani better and more meaningful - for ourselves, our children (keiki), our elders (kupuna), & for the many to come after us.

We've developed a list of everyday-actions to guide us in our own daily living. In creating this list, we used our Kaua`i experience, but also relied heavily on what the Aloha Spirit seems to mean to many of Hawaii's kupuna - respect & caring for others, respect for the land & what surrounds us, & being responsible for our individual actions. In the spirit of Aloha, we share our list with you, and invite you to create your own list.

WE REFER TO OUR LIST AS..."MILILANI ALOHA".

>Respect your elders & children.
>Leave places cleaner & better than you find them.
>Keep your own property (or kuleana) neat & clean.
>Slow down. Drive with courtesy & patience.
>Share with your neighbors.
>Help (or kokua) someone who needs help.
>Make someone happy.
>Respect other cultures.
>Listen to what's happening in the community.
>Vote wisely.
>Accept responsibility for your actions.

Mahalo, & we invite you to visit again soon.

With warmest aloha,

John Pescador, James Amihara, & Jeff Agader
