UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX OFFERS
DEGREE FORUM IN MILILANI
On Wednesday, July 6, University of Phoenix enrollment counselors will provide information on the
University's degree programs in business, information systems, nursing, education and
counseling, which will be offered in Mililani.
Information on financial aid also will be available. The meeting begins
at 6 p.m. at the University's facility at Mililani Technology Park, which is located at
300 Kahelu Avenue, Suite 10.
The University's programs are tailored to meet the needs of today's
working adults, said Grace Blodgett, vice president and campus director. Interactive
classes meet once a week for four hours and are taught by facilitators who work in the
field in which they teach. All faculty members have a master's degree or a Ph.D.
To reserve a space, please call the Mililani Learning Center at
625-7004.
ROYAL
HAWAIIAN BAND TO KICK-OFF AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY'S RELAY FOR LIFE
The Royal Hawaiian Band will
provide a free concert to the Mililani Community, 7pm, July
17 at Mililani High School.
The performance, at the school's track, kicks off the American Cancer
Society's all-night community event, Relay for Life.
Mililani residents are invited to attend both the free concert and the
Relay, which will feature other live entertainment, a kids tent with
fun activities, camping, fun, games, drawings for prizes and much more.
The non-competitive relay, sponsored by HMSA, is the Society's annual
fund-raising event in which teams of 10 collect pledges and walk, run, or jog around the
track. It's a great neighborhood slumber party that is safe and fun for everyone.
The Relay is also a chance to honor cancer survivors
and those who have lost the battle against cancer. Survivors open the event by
walking the first lap around the track; and at 9 p.m., a moving candle lighting ceremony
pays homage to those survivors and those who have lost the battle to cancer.
There's still time to form and register a team. For information, call Mililani resident Darrlyn Bunda at 677-7433 or the
Society at 486-8420.

SKATEBOARD PARK
Letter to Editor
by Steve Conrad Aloha,
My wife is from Mililani and
we now live in Lancaster, OH. I am the Recreation Supervisor for the Lancaster Parks
Department.
For the past few years, we have had a terrible problem with skate
boarders and roller bladers destroying our downtown parks.
To address the problem, our city council president organized a skate
board park committee with local business people, the parks department, and the skate
boarders. They have raised enough money, and we are now in the process of building a skate
board park. We are hoping that this park will take the kids off business parking lots and
the downtown area. There were a lot of legal concerns before we started building.
I would be more than glad to pass on any information that I have
available or to answer any questions you have.
Steve Conrad, Recreation Supervisor Lancaster
