RELAY-FOR-LIFE SCHEDULED FOR MAY 20-21
The American Cancer Society will
again hold its annual 12-hour overnight Relay For Life at Mililani High
School May 20 - 21.
This fun and inspirational community event allows the community to join
with cancer survivors and their families and friends in the battle against cancer in a
family-friendly, slumber-party, tailgating-type environment.
A festive atmosphere envelopes the track area at Relay for Life, as
teams of
10 pitch tents and party all night. Team members walk, run, stroll or dance around the
track, vying to win awards and contests.
The heart of Relay is a survivor's salute, in which cancer survivors,
their families and friends walk the first lap to the cheers and applause of participants
and visitors.
This sets the stage for a moving, chickenskin luminary service later in
the
evening in which survivors and those who lost the battle are honored.
Luminaries are left burning throughout the night to remind participants
of those we love.
Last year, 32 teams comprised of Mililani residents participated in
Relay for Life, raising $37,000 under the leadership of chair and Mililani resident
Darrlyn Bunda.
To learn more about the Relay for Life, please come to the Society's
Relay for Life Rally 6 p.m., Feb. 18 in Rec Center #6.
For more information, call the Society at 486-8420, or email Kim Durbec
at ddurbec@cancer.org. To request information packet.
