MTA BUDGET FOR 1999-2000 DIPS INTO RESERVE

MARCH 1999 - In its monthly newsletter to property owners, MTA revealed its 1999-2000 budget.
Unlike last year, MTA did not publish  information about projected fund balances.
In the report published last year, it estimated a fund balance of over $3.6 million at the end of fiscal year 1998-99. Based on the report published in the March 1999 newsletter, the fund balance may have decreased.
It is difficult to determine what the actual fund balances are from the report in the newsletter, since MTA only published estimates last year, & this year it did not publish any fund balance information.
For MTA association members to be fully aware of the Association's finances, they need to not only have access to the budget details of the operating revenues & expenses, but they also need information about fund balances & the details of expenditures from the reserve account.
In summary, for fiscal year 1999-2000, MTA is estimating revenues of $3.9 million & expenses of $3.5 million. In addition, nearly $1 million is earmarked for rrp/cip projects - which will be funded by the $400,00 of excess revenues over expenses, & $600,000 from previous years' fund balances.
The MTA newsletter stated that property owners who have questions may call the MTA general manager (Calvin Maeda) at 623-7300 from 8am-4:30pm, Mondays thru Fridays.
