UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX OFFERS
DEGREE FORUM IN MILILANI


    MAY 1999 - For Mililani residents interested in obtaining an academic degree in as little as two years, the University of Phoenix will hold a free informational seminar on its innovative adult educational model in Mililani on Tuesday, May 4, and downtown Honolulu on Wednesday, May 5.
    University enrollment counselors will provide information on the University's degree programs in business, information systems, nursing, education and counseling. Information on financial aid also will be available. The meetings begin at 6 p.m.
    "The University's programs are tailored to meet the needs of today's working adults," said Grace Blodgett, vice president and campus director. "Our interactive classes meet once a week for four hours and are taught by facilitators who work in the field in which they teach. All faculty members have a master?s degree or a Ph.D."

OFFICERS ELECTED & COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSONS ASSIGNED FOR MTA BOARD

    MAY 1999 - At its annual meeting in March, the MTA Board of Directors elected its officers for 1999-2000 fiscal year. The Board also assigned members to service as chairpersons for various committees:
    Officers elected were: President - Eric Matsumoto, Vice President - Donald Miller, Secretary - Glenn Yoshimori, & Treasurer - Farouk Wang.
    Committee chairperson assignments were: Audit & Finance - Farouk Wang; Bldg & Grounds - Glenn Yoshimori; Civic Affairs - Roger Ancheta; Mgt & Personnel - Donald Miller; Member Relations - Darrlyn Bunda; & Recreation - Michael Park.


LABOY LEADS VOTING FOR NEIGHBORHOOD BOARD NO. 25

    MAY 1999 - Clifford LaBoy garnered 2,088 votes in the recent neighborhood board elections.
    Others members elected & their vote totals were: Roger Ancheta (1978), Michael Castell (1,926), Lucy Cahn H.P. Sullivan (1,730), Douglas Thomas (553), Richard Poirier ((516), Steven Anderson ((528), Yetta Weinberger (419), Jessie Weinberger (409), Michelle Kidani (387), Glenn Ah Sam (345), Kenneth Stover (322), Daniel Romero (302), Rodney Botelho (620), William Bass (612), Susan Hough (601), & Charles Remington (546).
    Neigborhood Board No. 25 encompasses Mililani, Waipio, & Melemanu.


MILILANI TRACK STARS HONORED BY STAR-BULLETIN

    MAY 1999 - Leila Hommonds & Vera Sims won honorable mention awards in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin weekly Athlete of the Week awards.
    Both were recognized for their recent performances. Hammonds won the long jump, anchored the record-setting 4x100 relay team, finished second in
the 100 and 200, and third in the triple jump to help the Trojans repeat as OIA champs Friday.
    Vera Simms set a meet record in the 300 low hurdles, won the 100 high hurdles, anchored the winning 4x400 relay team and anchored the Trojan's record-setting effort in the 4x100 relay.

    MHS Girls Tennis team won their 6-straight OIA tennis championships. Team members: Alohelani Castro, Kristy Oshita, Krystal Hangai, Geri Maeshiro, Erin Hoe, Jodie Sato, Raimi Ishikawa, Jacie Hamai, Harmony Badayos, Kirsten Kaneshiro, Dristi Wong, megan Abrigo, &Kim Hose. CANCER RELAY FOR LIFE TO BE HELD AT MILILANI HIGH SCHOOL STADIUM

    Voluntees & participants are needed for the Relay for Life race on July 17 & 18.
    The race is a fundraising event to benefit the American Cancer Society.
    The race begins at 7pm on July 17 & ends at 7am on July 18.

SEVEN INCUMBENTS RE-ELECTED TO NINE MEMBER NEIGBORHOOD BOARD NO. 35 FOR 1999-2000

    Incumbent Pamela Young led the voting for the Mililani Mauka-Launani Valley Board with 802 votes.
    Other incumbents elected & their vote totals were: Roy Doi (792),Tim Dittrick (731), Wae Kodama (726), Lily Canas (722), Jeanette Nekota (696), &   David Ellis (620).
    New members elected were:  Teresa Lau (764) & Christopher Young (582).
    The Neighborhood Board No. 35's website is under construction, & is being hosted & Supported by Mililani Interactive.


REGISTRATION BEING ACCEPTED FOR YOUTH SUMMER PROGRAMS.

    MAY 1999 - MTA is sponsoring 3 summer youth programs.
    At Street Dance Program runs from June 28 to July 23, 1pm-3pm, at Rec Centers 5 & 6, The cost with an MTA i.d. is $100; $110 without.
    An Arts & Crafts Extravaganza runs from June 28 to July 23, 1pm-3pm, at Rec Center 3. The cost with an MTA i.d. is $100; $110 without.
   A Performance Arts Session runs from June 21 to July 16, 1pm-3pm, at Rec Center 3. The cost is $125 with an MTA i.d. card; $135 without.

ARE YOU SELLING OR BUYING?

    MAY 1999 - Mililani Interactive announced that it is making its bbs available free to individuals selling or buying personal goods & services.
    "Mililani Interactive is for our community, & we want to make it easier to sell or buy personal goods or services," said Mililani Interactive's founder John Pescador.
    "We also noticed that many garage sales are being scheduled, & we're hoping that our bbs can eventually serve as a central place where people can post information about these sales."
