PROTECT YOUR HOME & YOUR NEIGHBORS
by Hillsdale Homeowners Association

  • Dowels & pins are inexpensive ways to keep your windows & sliding doors secured.
  • Replace your lock with a double-sided one which requires a key to lock & unlock it from the inside & outside. That way, burglars cannot escape through your front door.
  • Always lock your windows & doors whenever you leave your home, even if it is only for a short while. You never know who is waiting for an opportunity to strike.
  • Always lock your windows at night.
  • Know your neighbors. If you see anyone suspicious attempting to enter their home, call 911 immediately. Better safe than sorry.
  • Inform a trusted neighbor when you will be away for an extended period of time so that they can watch over your home.
  • Watch for suspicious vehicles. Write down a description of the care (make, model, color, distinguishing marks), its license plate number, & a description of its occupants. Report this information to the police.

SAFETY TIPS FOR THE HOLIDAYS
HPD Officer Carl Medeiros

"WHAT TO DO" - FOR SECURITY WATCH MEMBERS

  • Get to know your neighbors. Register your name and telephone number with your block captain, and obtain neighborhood security watch decals and all pertinent brochures. Call HPD Officer Carl Medeiros (625-1759) if you would like to start a Neighborhood Security Watch (NSW) in your area.
  • Obtain the map of your neighborhood area with a list of participating members involved with the NSW.
  • Place your decals in an appropriate location for greater visibility.
  • Keep your eyes and ears open and report any suspicious activity. If you decide not to call the police, be observant and inform your block captain or neighbors of the incident. Write down license plate numbers and give a suspect description and any other important information.
  • If you are witnessing an actual break-in, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY. Police officers are not dispatched through the Wahiawa Police phone system. You need to call 911, EVEN IF IT IS NOT AN EMERGENCY.
