Dear Neighbors:

The Neighborhood Board System was created to assure and increase community participation in the decision-making process of government. The system applies the concept of participatory democracy, involving communities in the decisions affecting them.

The Mililani Mauka/Launani Valley Neighborhood Board serves as a mechanism through which our residents are able to communicate their needs and views on issues such as economic development, land use, zoning, capital improvements, and basic government services. While neighborhood boards are advisory in nature, the boards are able to effectively impact government decision-making when citizens are actively participating in the neighborhood board process.

Mililani has a history of effective citizen participation. On behalf of our board, I invite you to attend our regular monthly meetings (third Tuesday, Mililani Mauka Elementary Cafeteria, 7pm), volunteer to participate on a board committee or project, respond to our surveys, vote in our board elections, and consider being a candidate for a board vacancy. Your participation is always welcome and will help to continue to make our community a great place to live.

Aloha,

JEANETTE NEKOTA
Board Chair
